Yash Chopra’s warning to Bollywood

The chairman of the entertainment committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Yash Chopra, interacted with business chambers and stressed that it has become a need for film industry players go corporate or get gobbled as larger global companies are going to march into Indian film industry.

According to Mr. Chopra, the Rs 8,000-crore-plus Indian film industry, which churns out over a 1,000 films a year is now attracting the foreign entertainment behemoths like Walt Disney Inc of the US and Australian industrialist Kerry Packer.

Mr. Chopra told Newsline, “Making one film in three years is not viable any more. I have five films ready to release in 2007 and plan to release eight films in 2008 and 10 films in 2009 under the Yash Raj banner,”. At an interaction with the Bharat Chamber of Commerce Mr. Chopra said, “India has the highest number of billionaires, who can hold the reins of the Indian film industry to match global trends”.

Yash Chopra, the most experienced director-producer of Bollywood has been running his own company since 1970. Yash Raj Films of Mr. Chopra has produced a chain of hits like Dhoom, Dhoom 2, Bunty Aur Babli, Daag, Deewar and Lamhe etc.
